Green stones were more important than gold.
Jade represented life, fertility and power, which conferred upon the jewel a greater value than gold. It is common to find pieces of jade in tombs of the deceased belonging to the upper classes or the Maya royalty, since aristocracy was associated to the brilliant green color and was preferred above any other metal or precious stone. Also, it is said that the green stone facilitated the transit of the deceased to the hereafter. These stones were carved to perfection since they were used as ornaments and offerings to the gods.
