Kinich opened in April 1993 as a response to a long-standing need from the tourist sector of the city of Izamal: the lack of a comfortable, accessible place with facilities worthy for domestic and international tourists. That year, those very reasons brought the Azcorra Rejón family to start a project that would materialize with the opening of the first restaurant for typical Yucatan cuisine, the so-called Ciudad de los Cerros. The purpose was clear from the beginning: offer a place where people could enjoy the best of Yucatan cuisine, but with a unique flavor and low prices in an informal, but warm, environment that would also reflect the character of Yucatan hospitality and warmth.
