This beautiful house, located a few steps away from the most important avenue, Paseo de Montejo, built in the 19th century and declared a Historical Monument, has preserved its original architecture. It has become a part of the history of the Porfirian era in 18th and 19th century Yucatan as it is a living example of the lifestyle of one of the most important periods in the history of Yucatan and almost all of Merida: the henequen boom, which gave this building its wealth and prosperity, and saw its best days under the dictatorship of Porfirio Diaz, whose power ended with the 1910 Mexican Revolution. This boom allowed for the city of Merida to change its appearance with the construction of a large amount of splendid residences for the people who worked in the henequen business and wholesalers, as well as major urban developments. Life at the Casa Azul hotel continues as it was for the first owners of the property, in the wide corridors that surround the inner courtyard adorned with a beautiful Mayan stone fountain. The new owners allow guests to relive an era through the hotel’s magnificent facilities with all the comforts of home. It has a pool in the backyard, and there is also a terrace located in front of the hotel where you can enjoy an exquisite gourmet dinner in the evening or have a drink with friends while listening to traditional Yucatecan music performed by wonderful singers.
